Tarpley, Texas is a small unincorporated community in Bandera County. It is positioned only 12 miles southwest of Bandera, Texas. Tarpley was formed back in 1899 when a post office named Hondo Canon was moved there. The community was named after the postmaster’s son Tarpley Prickett. The Tapley family name was found in the USA, the UK, Canada, and Scotland between 1840 and 1920. The most Tapley families were found in the USA in 1880. In 1840 there were 22 Tapley families living in Massachusetts. This was about 42% of all the recorded Tapley's in the USA. Massachusetts had the highest population of Tapley families in 1840.
